Grinnell responds to Senate Finance Committee inquiry

Grinnell’s response to a recent inquiry by the Senate Finance Committee includes information about the College’s financial support of students and the role Grinnell’s endowment plays as the primary resource for the College’s budget.

In early February, the Finance Committee asked 136 colleges and universities a series of questions about endowments and access to higher education. The Committee requested a reply by the end of that month. Grinnell’s response describes the College’s financial aid policy; the budgeting process; endowment management, performance, and pay out; and student demographics. For several years, Grinnell has provided a comprehensive look at those topics on its website (please see links on the sidebar to the left).

Grinnell continues to be truly need-blind in its admission process and meets the full demonstrated need of domestic students. In addition, a new financial aid policy caps loans for students at $2,000 per year, significantly increases funding for buying back loans at graduation, and omits any qualified student’s required financial contribution for one summer if he or she engages in a socially worthwhile or educationally relevant activity.
