ROSENFIELD PROGRAM ON "WHO IS AFRAID OF THE BIG, BAD CHINA?"

GRINNELL, IA - The Rosenfield Program in Public Affairs, International Relations, and Human Rights will sponsor a presentation by Steven Dunaway of the International Monetary Fund on "Who is Afraid of the Big, Bad China?" Dunaway’s lecture will be at 8 p.m. on Tues., Apr. 15, in the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center on the Grinnell College campus.

Dunaway, who is deputy director of the Asia and Pacific department of IMF, will discuss the implications for China’s rapid rise and the sustainability of its continued growth and development. Since 2001, he has been primarily responsible for directing IMF’s work on China and heading consultation missions with the Chinese government. Prior to his current assignment, Dunaway was head of the IMF North American Division where he managed IMF’s consultations, reports, and analysis of the U.S. and Canadian economies.

During his 24-year career with IMF, Dunaway has held a wide variety of country assignments, ranging from Australia and New Zealand to Indonesia and the Philippines. In the mid-1990s, he also directed IMF’s research on private capital flow to developing countries and handled support for Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Dunaway holds a Ph.D. in economics from George Washington University and previously worked for the Bureau of Economic Analysis in the U.S. Department of Commerce.
