AFRICAN-AMERICAN SCHOLAR TO PRESENT "REDISCOVERING MALCOLM X"

GRINNELL, IA. - African-American scholar Manning Marable will present "Rediscovering Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention," the title of his upcoming book, on Thurs., Mar. 13 at 11 a.m. in Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center on the Grinnell College campus.

Marable, who is professor of public affairs, political science, and history at Columbia University, founded the Institute for Research in African-American Studies at Columbia, one of the most prestigious centers of scholarship on the Black American experience.

For more than 30 years, Marable has written "Along the Color Line," political commentary that appears in 400 newspapers and journals. He has edited more than 20 books, scholarly anthologies, and articles, and his most recent books include "Race, Reform, and Rebellion: the Second Reconstruction in Black America, 1945-2006," and "Living Black History: How Reimaging the African-American Past Can Remake America’s Racial Future."

Marable also collaborated with Myrlie Evers-Williams, widow of slain civil rights worker Medgar Evers to the autobiography of his hero through collected speeches, letters, and papers. In 2007, he edited "Seeking High Ground: The Hurricane Katrina Crisis, Race, and Public Policy Reader."

Marable’s lecture is sponsored by the Grinnell College Scholars’ Convocation Committee. The Rosenfield Center is located at 1115 8th Ave. on the Grinnell College campus.
