The St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre will perform "Carmen" on Sat., Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. in Roberts Theatre of the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts on the Grinnell College campus.

The St. Petersburg company, considered one of the most distinguished classical ballet companies in Russia, performs a repertoire of classical and modern ballet throughout the world. Directed by Yuri Petukhov, "Carmen" is a four-act production set in Seville, Spain, that tells the story of a young peasant girl, Micaela, searching for her sweetheart, Don Jose, who is both charmed and taunted by the temptress Carmen.

Tickets are required for this free public performance and may be obtained at the Bucksbaum Center box office, beginning Mon., Jan. 21, noon to 5 p.m.

The ballet performance is sponsored by the Grinnell College Public Events Committee. The Bucksbaum Center for the Arts is located at the corner of 6th Ave. and Park St. on the Grinnell College campus.
