Spring 2008

Spring 2008 Feeling hungry, or thirsty?

If not, the Spring 2008 Grinnell Magazine will change that in short order. In this issue, we salute Grinnellians "in the grip of the grape" — professionally, of course. In Vino, Grinnell: From Fruit to Shelf, Wine Fascinates and Delights, by Julie Kaster Estlick '92, introduces us to a few of Grinnell's alumni winemakers, along with those who sell wine, blog about wine, and export wine.

And naturally, you'll want something to eat too. Meet Chef Harry, Grinnell's celebrity chef. If this story by Dan Weeks '80 doesn't make you crave a slice of watermelon, nothing will.

'I Carried the Colors,' by State Senator Dennis Black, tells the story of Grinnellian Norman F. Bates 1865, who gave up his studies at Grinnell to serve in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Last year, after 25 years at Grinnell, longtime student affairs administrator Tom Crady left the College to accept a position at Dartmouth. We took the opportunity to talk with him about his experiences at the College, and his insights make for interesting reading. Check out Longtime Listener, with an expanded online interview with Crady, available through our online extras.
