The
Department of Theatre and Dance will present the U.S. premiere of "Testing the Echo," a play about loyalty, identity, and citizenship written by British playwright David Edgar. The Nov. 20-23 production, directed by Lesley Delmenico, associate professor of theatre and dance, will be performed in the Flanagan Studio Theatre of the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts.
"Testing the Echo" explores contemporary issues of immigration and national identity. The play was created from research and community interviews by actors in England's Out of Joint Theatre Company and toured England earlier this year. Called "witty, charming, and passionate" in U.K. reviews, the production uses humor, debate, and the interwoven stories of immigrants in an English as a Second Language classroom.
Curtain times for "Testing the Echo" are 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Admission is free but tickets are required and may be obtained at the
Bucksbaum Center box office, 641-269-4444, beginning Nov. 17, noon to 5 p.m. The Bucksbaum Center for the Arts is located at 1108 Park St.
