The Grinnell College women's golf team finished its 2008 campaign in impressive fashion Sunday with another record-setting round and a runner-up finish at the Midwest Conference Championships.
One day after shooting a program-record score of 358, the Pioneers did even better with a 350 Sunday on the Grinnell Golf and Country Club links. Two Pioneers, Jordan Heguy '09 (left) and Amy Livingston '09 (right), also collected all-conference honors by placing among the top 10. Heguy was sixth with a three-day score of 266 after shooting an 85 Sunday, while Livingston claimed eighth with a 269 after also shooting 85. She was tied with one other golfer for eighth, but claimed the higher place on a tie-breaker.
Another Pioneer, Stephanie Goggin '10, tied for 10th place with a 270 after shooting 92 on Sunday, but missed out on all-conference honors on the tie-breaker. Ashlen Matzdorf '11 was 21st with a 289 after shooting an 88 Sunday, Elaine Teo '12 was 22nd with a 291 after firing a 99 and Evelyn Anderson '12 tied for 25th with a 299 after shooting a 104.
Grinnell had a team score of 1078 and was bettered only by Illinois College's 1028. That allowed the Lady Blues to claim their sixth team title in a row. Carroll University placed third with a 1115, Ripon College was fourth at 1118 and Monmouth College wound up fifth at 1167.
The individual champion was Meredith Robinson of Illinois College, who had a 254. Teammate Ashley Edwards was second, five strokes behind Robinson.

The Grinnell College women's golf team enjoyed a stellar day Saturday at the 2008 Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell Golf and Country Club.
The Pioneers shot a program-best score of 358 to retain second place in the team race. Grinnell was just six shots behind leader Illinois College's Saturday total after finishing 26 shots behind the Lady Blues during Friday's opening day. The 358 on Saturday bettered Grinnell's previous program best of 362.
Amy Livingston '09 (left) had the Pioneers' best round on Saturday with a 13-over-par 85, while Jordan Heguy '09 (right) was not far behind at 87. Stephanie Goggin '10 added a 91, Evelyn Anderson '12 had a 95, Elaine Teo '12 shot 96 and Ashlen Matzdorf '11 tallied 1 08.
Through two days, Goggin is in fourth place individually with a 178. Heguy is tied for seventh at 181, Livingston sits in 14th at 184, Teo is tied for 20th with a 192, Anderson is 22nd at 195 and Matzdorf is tied for 26th with a 201.
Ashley Edwards of Illinois College kept the lead with a 165, five shots ahead of Rachel Talpers of Knox College and Meredith Robinson of Illinois College. Illinois College, seeking its sixth team title in a row, has a 696 through two days. Grinnell, with its 728, holds a comfortable lead over third-place Carroll College, which is at 749. Ripon College is fourth place, while St. Norbert College and Knox are tied for fifth.
The tournament concludes Sunday, with tee time set for 8 a.m.

The Grinnell College women's golf team, sparked by Stephanie Goggin's '10 round of 87, shot its way to second place after the opening day of the 2008 Midwest Conference Championships Friday at Grinnell Golf and Country Club.
Goggin (pictured) had rounds of 44 and 43 and currently sits in third place, six shots behind leader Ashley Edwards of Illinois College. Edwards' 81 is 9-over-par. Edwards' teammate, Meredith Robinson, is two shots behind the leader after firing an 83. Rounding out the top five are Rachel Talpers of Knox College, who is fourth with an 88, and Janelle Kuhn and Nicole Dematteo of Illinois College, who are tied for fifth at 90.
Grinnell had a team score of 370 and is eight shots ahead of third-place Ripon College. Illinois College, looking for its sixth team title in a row, leads at 344.
Ashlen Matzdorf '11 is next in line for Grinnell after Goggin with a 93 (46-47), which is good for a 13th-place tie. Jordan Heguy '09 is tied for 15th with a 94 (47-47), Elaine Teo '12 is tied for 19th at 96 (51-45), Amy Livingston '09 is tied for 25th with a 99 (53-46) and Evelyn Anderson '12 is tied for 27th after shooting a 100 (50-50).
The tournament continues Saturday with a 10 a.m. tee time and concludes on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m.

The 2008 Midwest Conference women's golf titles, both team and individual, will go through Grinnell.
Grinnell College hosts the three-day tournament beginning Friday at Grinnell Golf and Country Club. Action Friday and Saturday begin at 10 a.m., with Sunday's round starting at 8 a.m. Illinois College is seeking its sixth team crown in a row, while Andrea Liebelt of St. Norbert College looks to defend her individual crown.
Grinnell has been paced this season by Amy Livingston '09, who is coming off a third-place individual finish at the Mount Mercy Mustang Four Ball Classic last weekend. She has already established the second-best score in Pioneer history during the 2008 campaign. The Pioneers' MWC tourney lineup will be rounded out by Jordan Heguy '09, Ashlen Matzdorf '11, Elaine Teo '12, Stephanie Goggin '10 and Evelyn Anderson '12.
Midwest Conference Championships Preview
The Grinnell College women's golf team tuned up for the Midwest Conference Championships with another record-setting performance this past weekend at the Mount Mercy Mustang Four Ball Classic at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion.
One week after shooting a program-best two-day score of 736 at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic, the Pioneers topped that with an overall score of 735. That included a round of 362 on Sunday, which surpassed the previous program best of 366 also shot at St. Ambrose. In the four-ball team scoring breakdown, the Pioneers finished second with a 324.
Amy Livingston '09 continued her great play by shooting a two-day score of 166 with rounds of 86 and 80, placing her third among a field of 43 golfers and just three shots behind champion Valeria Cogollo of Waldorf. Mallory Lovik of Waldorf was second at 164. Stephanie Goggin '10 and Ashlen Matzdorf '11 tied for 18th with 189s, while Evelyn Anderson '12 and Jordan Heguy '09 tied for 26th at 194. Elaine Teo '12 tied for 31st place with a 199.
In the four-ball competition, Livingston and Heguy combined to finish 3rd with a 155. Matzdorf and Teo had a 169 and Anderson and Goggin a 172.
Grinnell hosts the Midwest Conference Championships this coming weekend at Grinnell Golf and Country Club. The three-day meet tees off at 10 a.m. Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday.

A school-record team score and a solid round by Amy Livingston '09 (pictured) propelled the Grinnell College women's golf squad at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic over the weekend.
The Pioneers had a program-best two-day score of 736, and their round of 366 on Sunday was also tops in Grinnell history. Livingston shot a 164, including a round of 79 on Sunday which has only been topped in Pioneer history by Hall of Famer Hilary Minnick '02. Livingston's overall score, which also included a round of 85, is also believed to be second-best in Grinnell history.
Livingston was seventh place overall. She was followed by Ashlen Matzdorf '11, who had a 187 (95 and 92), and Elaine Teo '12, who fired a 190 (96 and 94). Other Pioneers were Jordan Heguy '09 (94-103-197), Evelyn Anderson '12 (98-105-203) and Dena Rennard '10 (113-101-214).
St. Ambrose White won the team title with a 658, one shot ahead of runner-up Waldorf. Grinnell wound up seventh of 13 teams. Waldorf's Valeria Cogollo was medalist with a 157.
Grinnell's next outing will be at the Mount Mercy Invitational Sept. 27 and 28 in Cedar Rapids.
SAU Fighting Bee Classic Results
Amy Livingston '09 tied for ninth place individually to lead the Grinnell College women's golf team at the Loras Invitational on Friday.
Livingston fired a score of 91, shooting a 45-46. Ashlen Matzdort '11 tied for 19th with a 50-48-98, while Jordan Heguy '09 tied for 26th with a 51-51-102 and Gwen Deger '11 tied for 35th with a 57-50-107.
As a team, Grinnell shot a 398 to finish seventh. The champ was Ashford University of Clinton, which had a 361. Jordan Davis of Ashford was medalist with a 361.
Loras Invitational Results
Amy Livingston '09 tied for 26th place to lead the Grinnell College women's golf team at the Fighting Scot Invitational Saturday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth.
Livingston had rounds of 45 and 46 for a 91. Ashlen Matzdorf '11 and Evelyn Anderson '12 tied for 51st with 97s, as each had 46 on the front nine and 51 on the back. Jordan Heguy '09 was 59th with a 100 (52-48) and Elaine Teo '12 tied for 70th with a 105 (53-52).
As a team, Grinnell was 10th with a 385, just one shot behind ninth-place Clarke College. The champ was Central College with a 335. The individual winner was Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville University with a 352.
After the weekend, Grinnell heads to Dubuque to participate in the Loras Invitational on Sept. 12.
Fighting Scot Invitational Results
The Grinnell College women's golf team placed 10th at the Knox College Invitational at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Ill., on Friday.
The Pioneers, who had a team score of 399, were led by Amy Livingston's '09 round of 90, which put her in a tie for 22nd place. Ashlen Matzdorf '11 tied for 26th with a 91, Evelyn Anderson '12 tied for 53rd with a 99, Elaine Teo '12 was 60th with a 101 and Dena Rennard '10 tied for 82nd with a 117. The champ was Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville, who fired a 2-over-par 76.
Wheaton College won the team title with a 333, 15 shots ahead of runner-up Carthage College.

The Grinnell College women’s golf team entered the final day of the Illinois College Invitational in 10th place and finished up in the same spot Sunday.
The Pioneers, who shot a score of 787, were led by Amy Livingston’s ’09 two-day total of 192 (92-100). That was good for a 49th-place tie. Jordan Heguy ’09 and Ashlen Matzdorf ’11 tied for 56th with 198s, as Heguy went 99 and 99 and Matzdorf shot 97 and 101. Stephanie Goggin ’10 tied for 59th with a 199 (100-99) and Dena Rennard ’10 was 68th with a 215 (112-103).
Jada Bennington of William Woods University was the individual medalist with a 152. William Woods, which had the top five individual finishers, coasted to the team title with a 617.
Grinnell is back in action next weekend, playing in the Knox College Invitational on Friday and Monmouth College Invitational on Saturday.

The Grinnell College women's golf team returns several of its top players as it looks for a successful campaign in 2008.
Among the returnees is Jordan Heguy '09, who converted a late hot streak at the end of the season into a 12th-place finish at the Midwest Conference Championships. Other returnees who helped guide the Pioneers to a fifth-place team finish at the meet are Amy Livingston '09 (18th place), Stephanie Goggin '10 (tie for 22nd place), Ashlen Matzdorf '11 (26th), and Dena Rennard '10 (tie for 30th). Livingston had perhaps the highlight of the Pioneers' 2007 campaign when she earned Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honors after tying for third place at the Knox College Invitational.
Rounding out the 2008 Grinnell team are Gwen Deger '11 and Evelyn Anderson '12. The Pioneers open their campaign Saturday and Sunday at the Illinois College Invitational. Grinnell will host the 2008 Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell Country Club Oct. 3-5.
Grinnell College wound up fifth at the Midwest Conference Women's Golf Championships Sunday at Glen Erin Golf Club in Janesville, Wis.
The Pioneers fired a team score of 1157 over the three-day meet. Illinois College was the champ with 1022.
Leading the Pioneers was Jordan Heguy '08, who finished 12th with a 277. Other Grinnell golfers were Amy Livingston '09 (18th with a 292), Stephanie Goggin '10 (tied for 22nd with a 296), Ashlen Matzdorf 11 (26th at 299), Dena Rennard (tied for 30th with a 313) and Zair Burris (tied for 32nd with a 314).
Andrea Liebelt of St. Norbert won the title with a 241, eight strokes in front of runner-up Janelle Kuhn of Illinois College, who shot a 249.
