Pioneers 2nd after opening day of MWC Golf Championships

Goggin (pictured) had rounds of 44 and 43 and currently sits in third place, six shots behind leader Ashley Edwards of Illinois College. Edwards' 81 is 9-over-par. Edwards' teammate, Meredith Robinson, is two shots behind the leader after firing an 83. Rounding out the top five are Rachel Talpers of Knox College, who is fourth with an 88, and Janelle Kuhn and Nicole Dematteo of Illinois College, who are tied for fifth at 90. Grinnell had a team score of 370 and is eight shots ahead of third-place Ripon College. Illinois College, looking for its sixth team title in a row, leads at 344. Ashlen Matzdorf '11 is next in line for Grinnell after Goggin with a 93 (46-47), which is good for a 13th-place tie. Jordan Heguy '09 is tied for 15th with a 94 (47-47), Elaine Teo '12 is tied for 19th at 96 (51-45), Amy Livingston '09 is tied for 25th with a 99 (53-46) and Evelyn Anderson '12 is tied for 27th after shooting a 100 (50-50). The tournament continues Saturday with a 10 a.m. tee time and concludes on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m.
