What role does the class fund director play?

The class fund director encourages support for the annual Pioneer Fund by soliciting classmates and connecting with classmates' sense of philanthropy for Grinnell College. The CFD sends fundraising letters to classmates and coordinates class fundraising. As a member of the class committee, the CFD also attends Volunteer Weekend and helps to plan class reunions.

The class fund director (subsequently referred to as CFD) plays an important part in:

  • Gaining support from classmates for the Pioneer Fund
  • Reconnecting classmates to the college

One of the ways in which the CFD gains support from classmates for the Pioneer Fund is to write personal appeals asking classmates for financial support of Grinnell College. In these letters, the CFD will encourage them to remember the college, the professors and the education; and to remind classmates why the unique Grinnell College experience is still deserving of their support. The Office of College and Alumni Relations provides printing, postage and clerical assistance for the mailing process.

A CFD's role in reconnecting classmates to the college is also done by being a part of a class committee. This committee is set up to reunite classmates with the college and each other. This will include helping to coordinate and plan Reunion Weekend for their class along with other class volunteers.

You may want to be a Class Fund Director because:

  • An invitation back to campus for Volunteer Weekend is part of the deal.
  • An invitation back to campus to help plan your class reunion is part of the deal.
  • You will receive a volunteer newsletter, with news for "volunteers only."
