HOW DO STUDENTS USE THE READING LAB?

Students may work at the reading lab on either a registered or unregistered basis.

Students may choose to visit the lab on one or more occasions to confer with the director on a specific reading or study skill question.

Students may choose to register for the reading lab course (RED 100).

WHAT ARE THE COURSE REQUIREMENTS?

Reading 100 is a 1-credit P/F course. Students are required to attend 22 class sessions during the semester (generally two classes per week for 11 weeks), .and compile a 75-word vocabulary file. There are no out-of-class assignments. Class meeting times are flexible, and can be arranged to fit in with a student's semester schedule.

Please note: Students are welcome to use the lab without registering for the course.

HOW WILL I USE MY TIME IN THE READING LAB?

Students attend 22 classes per semester, generally two classes per week. For the first half of the semester, one of these classes will be a small-group session, centered on a variety of reading and study skills topics. In the second class session, students will work individually or one-on-one with the instructor, on whatever skills the student selects (vocabulary, reading comprehension and rate, ESL materials, pronunciation, etc.). During the second half of the semester, students have additional opportunities to work individually or with the instructor.
